So My Birthday is in the latter part of the year so for the majority of 1971 I was six.
I was still too young to have developed a definitive taste in music, I just listened to what the other 7 in the household played. To be honest my Matchbox Cars, Toy Soldiers and the Famous Five by Enid Blyton kept me pretty busy..and school.
What I do remember was 1971, like in most of Aussie homes, was the year of Aussie Artists in our home.
The Mixtures pedalled their way into 1971 with the pushbike song, I was over it by then and praying for a flat tyre, but it was played an awful lot. A member of the Mixtures would play an important part in my music in the few years time though.
My oldest brother's favorite band was an Aussie hard rock band called Zoot. They had a hit with the Beatles "Elenor Rigby" Great version Elenor Rigby
One of my other brothers had the hots, I mean enjoyed the music, of "Our Livvy" Olivia Newton John. Banks of the Ohio Yes, I know she was born in the UK, but everything about her spelt Aussie <3
Mum and Dad were fans of Helen Reddy, so I dont know how to love him got quite a few spins late on a Saturday night.
The real big Aussie song though was one even you younguns might know Eagle Rock Even I knew every word by years end!
My Sister fell in love with Maggie May by Rod Stewart which prompted Dad to ground her for the next 15 years lol (She is the only Daughter afterall)
Our Front door got quite a work out during 1971, Liv Maesson was still at the front door knock knock Dave edmunds most certainly Heard her knocking and Tony & Dawn Knocked 3 times I think they wanted to get to the Back yard where Lynn Anderson and the Rose Garden was
And that was pretty much how our household panned out in 1971. I did give Mum and Dad a door bell for Christmas that year though, just for a change of pace!! See you in 1972!!
