Checking my music collection, I only purchased 3 singles and no albums in 1973.
(Yes I still own every piece of Music I have purchased, Yes it's worth alot and No you cant have it)
Now thats out of the way, 1973 did have some great Music, but with 8 in the house I found I had to buy little as others purchased before I would of, so only 3 by me and a squirrelling away of pocket money less the weekly Wagon Wheel (look it up)
1973 brought into fashion the disaster movies. a sinking ship that wasn't named Titanic actually.
Mum had decided I was old enough to go to a day time movie at the Cinema on my own. Well on my own to the point she walked me to the ticket box and was standing there when the movie was over (and someone who looked suspiciously like someone I knew was sitting in the back row)
But anyway I did buy The Morning After . Who cant find joy about a song that celebrates the day after a ship sank that wasnt the titanic
The second song I bought was actually for my Grandmother, we called her "Muzzie" for the next 3 years I would go to her home and first thing she would say was "Put our song on love" it was Daisy a Day
Bit of a background to this, her Hubby, my Grand-dad died in 1961, 3 years before me and I know she missed him greatly and she would have this sort of vague look on her face every time I played it for her and I figured she was thinking of him...Nice!!
The 3rd song I got in 1973 was one of those little type ditty's that seem to appear ever year, this time it was a scary song (for a 9 year old anyway) Monster Mash
So that was my lot, but my family added some great songs....
My Mum loved I Am Woman and hey she had 6 kids, she lived upped to that name
My Sister loved a song that granted her another 38 years of grounding by my dad You're So Vain
The brother next to me fell in love with a rat and we still tease him today over it today Ben
Other songs filtered through the household over the year from Rolling Stones, Vickii Lawerance, Tony and Dawn etc
It was a nice year for Music, but 1974 would change the face of Music and Australia, My pocket Money reached $1 and later in that year I would reach double digits. But thats to come, enjoy 1973
