Im a big fan of text-based MMOs, and I'm 6 days in and I very much like this game. However i have an issue with expeditions. I've sunk about 18m in low tier equipment for my sicarios, but I'm realizing expeditions are kind of just a money sink. The benefits of a successful expedions are far overshadowed by the costs and the time it takes to be successful in them. I think it would be a really good improvement to the game if expeditions paid more, dropped better loot, and/or also earned reputation. Heavy on the gaining respect. I would be totally fine with expeditions being a money sink if they instead became a good source of reputation gain.

Nah plenty of ways to earn reputation. And it is supposed to be a money sink, I sunk over 1b into it, when there was not that many rank 9 gear circulating. But then I sunk that muxh into 24 sicario's. A bit overkill.
Now it is everywhere. Admittedly there is a decline on the mid rank stuff.
It still pays to do rank 9 expeditions, it even pays to do the mid tier expeditions cause there is not that many items floating around, particularly cars.

"It gets good after 2,000 hours"
Or much less if you don't only do La Paz expeditions. But yeah, expeditions don't really pay off until very, very late into the expedition progression.
I'd recommend you to not invest into it heavily early on, as you can get a decent team with cheap (or even free) gear (some players give out mid-rank sciario equipables to new players). Then you can just passively progress by doing Beni expeditions, which actually provide the fastest progression. There's a great guide by Quack you can find here: https://cartelempire.online/Forum/3/849
I think the early rewards themselves are fine, even if they're rather useless. It's a nice bonus for new players, but nothing to rely on.

Actually La Paz, Beni and Cochabamba are equally good compared to the time put in if you got the equipment to run them at 100% success rate, while the rest of the destinations will slow your progression

The weapons and armours you earn might be poopy on their own, but are worth more when donated at the Church, which counts towards your Achievement progress for donating, if that makes you feel a bit better 😁
