A couple of things that have been either partially implemented (but without a suggestion post that I still need to make) or just rattling in my head as additional sources of points have been:

  1. Add a small point amount as a reward for suggestions being implemented.
  2. Add a small point amount as a reward to moderators for closing out reports.
  3. Add a small point amount as a reward for bugs that get fixed.
  4. (this is the one that is mostly implemented but without a suggestion post) A period based leaderboard where the top 3 spots per period(daily, weekly, monthly) get rewarded some points.

If any of those sound worthwhile I can throw up a proper suggestion post for them (probably on Tuesday as my schedule is a bit crazy over the next couple of days)

I like idea 4 but there should also be some sort of leaderboard or ability for early/mid players to also get on some sort of leaderboard (with a lot less points of course), rewards activity and some competition.

Points can currently be converted to rai and SP profitably via missions. It's gonna keep going up while that's the case.

Gonna have to agree with Nexus here that there's enough point income for essentials (energy refill, a couple rerolls) from Mateo and the wheel.

It's a revenue source to keep the game funded IRL so a high point price is not a bad thing.

I would just like to point out for the people that say that points are a revenue source that its probably the worst option in terms of things to purchase, going of market rates right now

1sp -> 145M for 5.99$cad or 24.2m/$

200 points -> 400k each (80m total) for 7.49cad or 10.7m/$

Meaning for it to be worth it to buy points using real money the price should sit at around 966k/point.

So if you want points, its way more valuable at the moment to buy an SP, sell it and buy the points with the money from the SP sale. Since price of SP are also going up month to month that would mean that points price wont stabilise until they reach 1m+ and people start buying points to sell instead of SP.

Please add more ways of earning points. I know its sort of close to torn museum but maybe a bar in town could exchange pojnts for sets of alchool or something like that.

I think an item exchange for points could work without damaging the games economy or irl earnings. We already have a mission that gives players a supporter pack a month and if they really wanted to they could stack the mission to get 2 supporter packs a month which is arguably the most useful item in the game if you don't subscribe.

Item exchange could work along the lines of every 1m exchanged gets you 5 points with a maximum of 25 points per day. It is not a lot, but could lead to interesting inventory management strategies without being abused to hell and back.

It is true we have more needs for points than ever and they now spend a lot faster than they ever did before. But the fact remains that points are a major support for funding this game.

Ever since missions dropped and re-rolls were never capped I have mentioned how the points would soon come to this. When I started people couldn't give points away and we were selling just above the games buy back price. In less than 900 days the prices have raised by about 15x. We are approaching the point where the cost efficiency of buying points is almost equal to buying a supporter pack, which in my opinion is not a bad thing. I used to be able to buy 20 SP and just trade them for a market value equivalent of points, now that the gap is closing it makes more sense for me to just buy points.

Another option I can think of is reduce the number of points necessary for a re-roll on missions. Back in the day I could average about 500 points for a daily 15 rai, tons of cash and rep. Then we added more missions which made that more unlikely and I had days where I would spend 1200 points to get the same results. An alternative to lowering re-roll prices would be to have a similar function to the expeditions. Players can choose a character they would prefer to get missions from and each reroll would have an 80% chance of getting that characters mission. That still keeps points flowing, but not at the rate it is now where as people have pointed out we produce far fewer points than we consume as a community. Food for thought.

Not sure if its a good idea but maybe a new education course wich allows players to buy more points/day. Say 5 extra per course total of 5 courses bringing the max points per day to 50
